This 0.90 carat Burmese spinel carries an inky blue body color that shifts into soft violet undertones when direct light enters the stone for a depth of tone that reads as pure, saturated blue face-up and reveals its violet character at the edges and under angled light. The color is deep without being overly dark, which is a meaningful distinction: stones in this range frequently cross into a blackish territory that kills light return, but this one does not. It maintains its saturation while still allowing light to pass cleanly through the stone.
The square emerald cut rewards stones with strong, clean body color because step cuts reveal the interior in broad, open flashes rather than breaking the light into small fragments, as brilliant cuts do. The geometry here is precise and crisp, giving the stone a composed, architectural presence. The clarity grade is VS, with a single inclusion visible only under magnification. In the face-up position, it presents completely clean.
This piece is unheated and untreated. Natural blue-to-violet Burmese spinel at this clarity level and in this color range has become increasingly harder to source, and stones under one carat in this tone family are often passed over in favor of larger material, which makes this a nice find for the collector or practitioner who works at this size range.
WHAT THIS STONE IS USED FOR
One advantage of a faceted gemstone over a rough crystal is the culet, the pointed tip at the base of the stone, which acts as a focused energy director, similar to the tip of a Vogel crystal. By pointing the culet directly at the body, you can concentrate and deliver the stone's vibrational frequencies into a specific point rather than allowing them to radiate outward in all directions.
The three-band frequency profile of this stone is blue, indigo, and violet, which creates a layered energetic effect that moves progressively from the physical level into the spiritual. In body layouts, place it at the throat or third eye chakras where the blue band's cooling, containing quality can settle overactive or scattered energy. The indigo component deepens the effect, condensing awareness and opening the mind toward meditative states. The violet band completes the progression by shifting consciousness toward spiritual focus and amplifying any contemplative work that may already be underway.
For meditation, hold this stone at the forehead or rest it on the body at any chakra or meridian point. Its step-cut geometry presents the full depth of its color to the eye, which makes an effective focus point for entering stillness. For practitioners working with hyperactive, overactivated, or chronically inflamed conditions, the blue band's documented action on inflammatory and overheated states makes this stone a practical tool. Use it in layouts, in elixir form, or set in fine jewelry for sustained energetic support. At under one carat, it sets compactly in virtually any style such as stacking rings, pendants, or as an accent in a more elaborate piece.
VIBRATIONAL PROFILE
Blue band: At the physical level, the blue band reduces fever, inflammation, and pain, soothes skin irritation, stops bleeding, and supports all conditions requiring cooling. Enel identified it as a regenerator of the nervous system, indicated for high blood pressure, arthritis, neuralgia, and sciatica. At the energetic level, it contains, contracts, and localizes energy; it's sedating and anesthetic in quality, inhibiting overactivity and building vitality through yin reserves rather than yang stimulation. At the emotional and mental level, it reduces hyperactivity and promotes quietness, reflection, and relaxation. Rudolf Steiner connected blue to the chemical ether, governing movement from the astral plane into physical water and fluids. In Chinese medicine, blue corresponds to the water element, the kidney and urinary bladder, and the forces of birth, death, and rebirth. It supports gentleness, calmness, and silence, and counteracts fear.
Indigo band: The indigo band is the rarest of the twelve bands in the vibrational spectrum and is rarely found in stable form outside of stones. At the physical level, it stimulates the parathyroid, supports the production of phagocytes, cells that destroy foreign matter and microorganisms, and decreases bleeding, abscesses, and hemorrhages. At the energetic level, it is astringent, condensing, and contracting, functioning as a pain reliever and appearing as a key component in energy transmutation processes. At the emotional and mental level, it lessens excitement and overactivity and opens the mind toward deep spiritual spaces. At the spiritual level, indigo governs intuition, meditative states, and alchemical transformation - it is the catalyst for transformative processes and the primary interface between the physical and subtle bodies.
Violet band: At the physical level, the violet band builds the spleen and white blood cells and supports the lymphatic system. At the energetic level, it is faster and more penetrating than the white band, and it uniquely amplifies any other vibrational color used alongside it, making it a potentiating force for both the blue and indigo bands already active here. It produces etheric revitalization and transmutation. At the emotional and mental level, it shifts awareness toward spiritual focus and deepens meditation. In Rudolf Steiner's system, violet corresponds to the Life Ether, the highest of the four ethers, which penetrates solid matter and governs the physical materialization of spiritual impulses. In Daskalos' archangelic system, violet is the flame of Archangel Raphael, the Archangel of Healing, who governs etheric vitality. The alchemical Violet Flame tradition speaks to violet's core function: the transmutation of denser energetic states into higher, refined ones.
Together, these three bands produce a frequency profile that moves from physical cooling and containment through condensation of awareness into spiritual depth, and finally into transmutation and etheric revitalization. This is not a stimulating stone by any means. It is a clarifying, deepening, and refining one.
